Helga was born into a musical family in St John's, Newfoundland, where she began studying piano and voice at the age of 4. Having performed on stage in shows, music festivals and concerts from that age, Helga went on to win several competitions, and then moved to Montreal to continue her studies at McGill University.
She began performing in many of the major hotels and clubs in Montreal, and it was there that she discovered her love for jazz music. As she began performing with jazz ensembles, this opened up an opportunity to spotlight with a gospel choir for a time.
Helga has performed across Canada and the US. She has also sung and been interviewed for several CBC radio shows, both in her native Newfoundland and in Montreal. For several months she regularly appeared as a guest performer on 'Live from Montreal', a CFCF-TV production. She has worked with renowned jazz artists Charlie Biddle and Oscar Peterson, and has been a featured entertainer at numerous Montreal hot spots, including Biddles Jazz Club (now House of Jazz) and the prestigious 'Chateau Vaudreuil'.
In 1998 she began traveling the world with Princess Cruise Lines as a featured entertainer. She was chosen to perform on the Queen Mary II for its entire inaugural season, where she also had the unique honor of singing for Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Philip and Prince Charles. She recently also had the delightful privilege of singing with UK's idol Sir Cliff Richard aboard the Seabourn Spirit. She has worked on numerous other cruise lines notably the Cunard, Raddisson, Rennisance, Windstar and Seabourn.
Helga's radiant personality, versatile voice and obvious love for music are just some of the reasons why she continues to be an audience favorite, both on land and at sea. She looks forward to meeting and making new friends from all around the world.
